The Department of Access, Compliance, and Equal Opportunity (ACE) and Big Brother Big Sister of Miami (BBBSM) launched the Panther Partnership Mentoring Program in January 2022. This Mentoring Program is a one-to-one program providing these high school students with career readiness and job-shadowing experiences with FIU faculty and staff. The program will also provide 30 university-bound 10th, 11th, and 12th graders, a Florida Prepaid scholarship to FIU. This Mentoring Program allows FIU to give back to the community by supporting youth from nearby high schools.

For the Spring 2022 semester, FIU collaborated with Miami Southridge Senior High School and Miami Edison Senior High School. Working closely with the Miami-Dade County Public School District (MDCPS) and FIU, BBBSM transports participating Littles every month from their school to our MMC Campus where they are matched with an FIU mentor, who will serve as their Big. In addition to job shadowing and mentoring, students are exposed to an actual workforce culture and a variety of job opportunities. They also participate in a formal curriculum to learn basic job preparation skills. This helps motivate Littles toward increased academic performance, high school graduation, and college at FIU.
