FIU’s affinity groups demonstrate our commitment to inclusivity and belonging. Employee-initiated affinity groups provide faculty and staff with the opportunity to share interests and experiences with others. All affinity groups are formed and operated by employees on a voluntary basis. Affinity groups offer opportunities for employees to connect on a meaningful level beyond the traditional and/or organizational structure. For questions or more information on affinity groups, email ace@fiu.edu.
Starting a new affinity group
Faculty and staff can submit the Affinity Group Proposal Form to propose a new affinity group. To be recognized as an affinity group by the Department of Access, Compliance, and Equal Opportunity, the group must have the following:
- One lead; one co-lead
- Must have at least 5 total members
- Defined purpose and goals
- Leadership roles, responsibilities, and terms of office
- Membership Information
- Programs, initiatives, and activities
- Process of financial reporting (if dues will be collected)
If you are interested in creating or being part of a new group, please sign up using the FIU affinity group proposal form. Once 5 individuals are interested, the group may be formalized.
